I learnt to swim when I was five or six years old. Since then the sum total of my swimming ability was to swim back to the side of the pool after jumping in the water.
I had a single lesson after Christmas at the local pool because I want to do a triathlon next year. Since then I have been at the pool at least three time per week. When I started training I could not do one lap of the 25m.
I managed to bring the distance up to 20 laps of the 50m, but EVERY single lap for the past 10 weeks has been completely exhausting. I have needed to rest for several minutes after each 50m. This has been very frustrating because I am quite fit otherwise and train every day at varying levels of intensity in other disciplines (running, cycling, martial arts, boxing). Until I did the Effortless Swimming clinic last weekend (with Mitch in Sydney) I could simply not put two laps together without stopping half way down the pool in the second lap.
By the end of the clinic I could do a lap without being totally fatigued. Swimming was easier and faster (but felt slower and more relaxed).
Today I went back into the water and did 200m without a break - unbelievable. Last week I honestly could not imagine doing this.
Mitch quickly identified the major areas I needed to give attention and provided clear guidance and solutions. The results were immediate.
I now know what to focus on and why every lap was previously a "fight with the water" (as Mitch commented).
I could not recommend this clinic highly enough. The chances are the local swim teacher does not possess the knowledge the guys from Effortless Swimming are able to clearly convey.
